PC Windows - Manual Install of a Steam Game From Disc

To manually install a Steam game from a disc, follow the instructions below. 

IMPORTANT: You may find yourself copying a large amount of data / files onto your PC; before proceeding make sure that you have sufficient space on your hard drive!

Step A: Temporarily disable your anti-virus and security software:

1. From the Windows desktop, press and hold the Windows Key (Microsoft Logo) and the R Key together at the same time to open the Run Window,

2. Type msconfig and click OK,

3. Select the Services tab,

4. Uncheck anything related to your system protection/anti-virus,

5. Select the Startup tab,

6. Uncheck anything related to your system protection/anti-virus,

7. Restart your computer.

 

Step B:  Perform a "Desktop Installation":

1. Create a new folder on your desktop (right-click on a blank space of the desktop and select New then Folder),

2. Insert the disk into the CD/DVD drive (exit any auto menus),

3. Open My Computer (Windows Key + E in Windows 8) and locate your CD/DVD drive,

4. Right click on the CD/DVD drive and select Explore,

5. Click in the now open folder, from the keyboard press Ctrl+A then Ctrl+C to copy all of its contents,

6. Open the new folder, click inside it and from the keyboard press Ctrl+V to paste the disc contents into the folder,

7. If there are multiple discs, copy and paste all of the contents of each disc into the same new folder,

8. Eject any game discs,

9. If you have a Steam account, launch your Steam client and log-in.  If not, download the Steam client and create a Steam account, taking note of the email and log-in credentials you use,

10. Locate the installer file, typically titled run.exe or install.exe,

11. Right click this file and select Run as administrator, then follow any of the installer's prompts or instructions,

12. Make certain that you choose the option to install locally from disc,

13. Allow Steam to download and install any game updates, patches or DLC,

14. Once the installation is complete, you may delete the folder containing the files copied from the disc.

 

Step C:  Reenable your anti-virus and security software:

1. From the Windows desktop, press and hold the Windows Key (Microsoft Logo) and the R Key together at the same time to open the Run Window,

2. Type msconfig and click OK,

3. Select the Services tab,

4. Recheck anything related to your system protection/anti-virus,

5. Select the Startup tab,

6. Recheck anything related to your system protection/anti-virus,

7. Restart your computer.
