Manual Uninstall of a PC Game

If your game is installed and authenticated through Steam, please follow these instructions instead of those listed below.

To manually uninstall a PC game, please follow the steps below:

Note: Whether you want to keep or delete your save data, its location can vary depending upon the game. Common places in-which game saves can be stored are; My Documents, install path of the game i.e. Programs Files, or in some cases the AppData folder (Stage 2 below).   

Step A: Uninstall the game through Windows Control Panel;

1. From the Windows desktop, press and hold the Windows Key (Microsoft Logo) and the R Key together at the same time to open the Run Window,

2. Type Control Panel and click OK

3. From the Control Panel Window, click on Uninstall a program (Add/Remove Program for Windows XP)

4. Right click on the game and select Uninstall.

5. Restart your Computer.

 

Step B: Confirm removal of Game data/settings from Application Data folder;

1. From the Windows desktop, press and hold the Windows Key (Microsoft Logo) and the R Key together at the same time to open the Run Window,

2. Type %localappdata% (%appdata% Windows XP) and click OK

3. From this folder delete any files (including subfolders) specific to the game only.

 

Step C: Confirm removal of Game install from Program Files;

1. Navigate to the game directory, typically;

Computer > Local Disk (C:) > Program Files > Publisher/Developer/Game Title

or

Computer > Local Disk (C:) > Program Files (x86) > Publisher/Developer/Game Title 

2. From this folder delete any files (including subfolders) specific to the game only.

 

Step D: Confirm removal of Game registry entries;

IMPORTANT: For those unfamiliar with editing registry keys consider using a registry cleaner such as CCleaner as mistakes can render your system unstable!

1. From the Windows desktop, press and hold the Windows Key (Microsoft Logo) and the R Key together at the same time to open the Run Window,

2. Type regedit and click OK

3. From the Register Editor Window, Right click to delete (if present) game specific entries from the following locations onwards:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE (SOFTWARE Wow6432Node for 64bit Operating Systems) 

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > Microsoft > Windows > CurrentVersion > Uninstall

4. When complete, please close the Registry Editor and restart your computer.
